Dark Lip Neutralisation - Permanent Makeup Treatment

Permanent makeup/ Dark Lip Neutralisation is a form of tattooing. PMU pigments are implanted quite shallow in the dermal layer. You will need to first book in for a Consultation* and have a patch-test at least 24 hours prior to the treatment. *Please bring any lipstick colours you love or usually wear that you would like us to aim to!

You must be 18 years or older to receive any permanent makeup in the UK. Please bring a form of ID with you at consultation.

Unfortunately this is a contraindication for all permanent makeup treatments due to :
1) Insurance do not insure any therapists to treat someone that is pregnant.
2) During pregnancy hormones can be affect your skin.
3) Permanent makeup essentially creates small trauma so your body will need to move it's focus onto healing that trauma.

However, you are always welcome to come in for a consultation whilst pregnant to discuss options for when you are post birth.

1 Week Prior :
Keep your lips well hydrated with a good lip balm
Avoid Motrin, Advil, Ibuprofen, Naproxen
Avoid fish oils, DHA supplements, cayenne supplements, turmeric, vitamin E, niacin (or anything that can cause blood thinning)
**If any of the above are taken for medical purposes, please consult with your doctor prior to the procedure.

1-3 Days Prior:
Avoid alcohol (especially red wine)
Avoid coffee, tea, green tea (caffeine)
Gently exfoliate the lips 2 days prior, 2x a day.
Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water (dehydration is dry lips)

On The Day:
Avoid intense physical activity(light yoga and walking are ok)

At your consultation we will discuss your different colour options - what colours will suit you and what colours you can have. However, this is all based on your natural lip colour and your skin chemistry.

As this is Dark Lip Neutralisation, we will need to neutralise the darkness/coolness of the lips. To do this, we use a pigment with an orange hue. This is nothing to be worried of, as this will always heal nicely but something to take into consideration of not doing anything on the day of your treatment. 

We will also discuss the type of look you want to achieve and together create a custom blend. It also helps you bring along with you to the consultation lipstick colours that you would like to aim for. 

Immediately after the treatment, the colour will be dark and bold, this will heal at-least 40-50%. When you come for your second session (top-up) if you would like a stronger colour once healed we can work towards that. 

Please remember, DLN is a journey and can take more than three sessions to strive for the colour you want, the top up sessions are included in the price.

This depends on each individual client, however in general your lips will look and feel swollen, slightly larger than normal and sometimes can look like you may have had a slight injectable! The swelling will go down and subside within 24 hours.

As mentioned above, the pigment and lip colour will look darker initially, like a bold lipstick. It will then fade 40-50% once healed.

Immediately after the treatment, your lips normally feel dry, tight and tender to the touch. You must follow the correct AFTERCARE form given to you. If you cannot find this form, please contact us asap on info@uklashglobal.com or 01582 344324

The first 24 Hours: 
As we would have used numbing cream during the treatment, when that starts to wear off and you can start to feel some tenderness and soreness. You can use icepacks wrapped in clean towels and apply to the lips.  

The treatment will create tiny wounds that provoke your body’s inflammatory response. This can result in your lips  producing lymphatic fluid. Always use clean cotton pad and water to dap off this fluid from your lips around 4-6 hours after the treatment.

The Next Day (s):
Around day 2, you should expect the swelling to have gone down. You will then notice the hue of the lip blush to get darker, do not worry! Please continue to follow aftercare and apply your cream as guided. Applying a thin layer to keep your lips hydrated without overdoing it is key!

Days 3 -5 :
The flaking stage will tend to start around Day3/4, this is nothing to worry about and part of your healing process! 

During this stage, scabs will appear as the skin starts to recover from the needle-induced trauma. NEVER peel off or pick off the scabs! (no matter how tempted you may be) If you start to pick off the skin, it will result in patchiness and can also reopen wounds which will be susceptible to infections. ALWAYS let the scab/dry flakes to fall off naturally.

Stay consistent with lip hygiene and aftercare routine, keeping the lips hydrated is crucial! This flaking stage can last up to a week or longer!

Days 5+ :
Once the flaking stage has passed around day 5/6, the colour on your lips will now be 40-50% lighter.

Remember - Sometimes it might look like the pigment has “disappeared” before returning a couple of weeks later. This is very normal during the end of your healing process. This. is because the skin thickens as it heals and can briefly conceal the ink.

Around 4 - 8 weeks, the skin has repaired itself and the colour has now settled!

Weeks 8-10 :
It's time to book your top-up session, this is where any areas need balancing, neutralising or  topping up the colour!

Yes you can still have a Dark Lip Neutralisation treatment however it is important to note : 

Any client that has a history of cold sores (Herpes virus – Herpes simplex) can experience symptoms of the infection after the treatment. That is why we recommend all our clients who has this history to get a prescription of preventative oral medication at least 4/5 days prior to the treatment, on the day of the treatment and 3-4 days after the treatment (or as advised by your GP) to avoid this breakout. 

Please note : Dark Lip Neutralisation does not give you cold sores if you do not have history of it, but any treatment to the lip can trigger the dormant virus and increasing the risk of an outbreak. This is not uncommon, so please do not hesitate to let us know if you have history of this, we would like to prep you correctly and protect you ahead of the treatment.

You can easily get the Anti-herpes oral medication over the counter or on prescription. It  has been shown to prevent or minimize these outbreaks.
